Crone

Crone-the Misunderstood Aspect
The Maiden is youthful jot and innocent passion, untold promise. Her beauty is a wonder. She is Springtime and budding flowers. She is the field that is being tilled, the seeds that will help her blossom into the Mother are being planted. The Maiden is all Potential. The Mother is slightly more matured, giving birth, nurturing her children, fertile Taking the raw inspiration of the Maiden and turning it into reality. Her beauty is the Maiden's Promise fulfilled. These two aspects of the Triple Goddess, we celebrate and honor joyously.
But the third Aspect of the Triple Goddess is one which we seem to gloss over - if not totally ignore. Her color is black, which absorbs all light. Unlike the Mother , her womb is empty. Fertility has passed. Life has carved canyons of care into her face. The passage of time which turned the dancing steps of the Maiden into the firm stride of the Mother, has left her with a slower, more measured gait. She is not Beautiful. She is not lively. She does not hold the promise of birth. Her eyes seem mysterious, possibly even fearsome. SHE IS CRONE.
To many people, She represents Death. And most people try to avoid Death. And so, over time, the Crone Aspect of the Triple Goddess has come to be held in fear and dread. Hers is the Magic of the Darkened Moon. And all good little Wiccans are taught not to make Magic during the Dark Moon, (there may be Karmic repercussions, only bad things are brought about in the dark, etc,) But you should know instead that the Crone doesn't bring Death -she makes sure that we are ready to make the transition between this world and the next with an easy heart. She has danced the Maiden's dance, and strode firmly down the path of the Mather. She has learned the lessons of this life, and can now share the wisdom of her years with us, so our paths may be smoother. She is not to be feared, but rather She should be revered, for She is the Culmination of all that this life holds. And the promise of the next cycle is held in the mysterious depths of her eyes
